What We Do

Three trades, one obsession

Every piece that leaves the studio is blocked, shaped and finished by hand — whether it began as raw felt or as a beloved old hat with fifty more years left in it.

Made to Measure

Guessing your hat size is the biggest mistake in hat buying. We measure your head — or a hat you already love — and build to that number, down to the centimetre.

One-of-One Design

Choose the style, colour, band and finish — or send us a photo of a hat that caught your eye and we'll create a custom piece inspired by it, tailored to you.

Our Story

Reviving the art of premium headwear

1983 Hatters began in Saskatoon with a simple conviction: a great hat isn't just an accessory — it's part of the story. Ours are built the old way, with patience and a steady hand, for people who believe the best things are made, not manufactured.

The inspiration comes from everywhere the shop isn't. Days off are spent with the classic westerns — studying the hats worn by Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday in Tombstone, the style and the character behind every scene — and carrying that timeless swagger into every new commission.

“A great hat isn't just an accessory — it's part of the story.”

Every hat is measured to its owner, finished by hand, and signed with our mark. Trust pure. Eighty-three beauty.

Back the Bench

Help get the shop off the ground.

1983 Hatters is a young studio, and every hat that goes out the door pays for the next one — blocks, felt, thread and the tools to shape them. There's a GoFundMe running to help build it faster. If chipping in isn't in the cards, sharing it helps just as much.

Opens GoFundMe in a new tab. Donations are handled entirely by GoFundMe — nothing is collected on this site.

The Perfect Fit

Not sure what hat size you wear?
We've got you covered.

A properly fitted hat doesn't just look better — it feels better too. Before we build, we make sure of the number:

  • Measure a hat you own. We can read the size from a favourite hat and match it exactly.
  • Measure your head. Stop by the Saskatoon shop for a proper fitting — or measure at home with our size guide.
  • Seen a hat online you love? Send us a photo. We'll create a custom hat inspired by it, made to your measurements.
